David Banner
MC, Producer
David Banner was born in Chicago but raised in Mississippi after moving to Jackson as an infant. He was working towards his master’s degree in education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, but ultimately decided to leave to pursue a career in music. Before helping to pioneer the southern hip-hop movement of the late 90’s/early 2000’s as a member of Crooked Lettaz and then as a solo artist, he was a member of Stewpot Stowaways – a collective conceived at Jackson State and comprised of young artists from all over the country, particularly Mississippi and Chicago, that also included Crooked Lettaz partner Kamakaze, Olskool Ice-Gre, cap D and Vice Verse.
