capital D aka cap D is a true renaissance man: emcee, producer, lawyer, lecturer, businessman, author, activist and NBA champion. With DJ Tone B. Nimble, he formed one of the most respected underground hip-hop groups of all-time, All Natural, in the early 90’s. That was followed by the formation of All Natural, Inc. – one of the most prominent independent record labels in Chicago and beyond. His talents as a lyricist and producer have earned him numerous awards and the highest respect among fans, peers and critics, allowed him to travel the world and work with some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including No I.D., Atmosphere, Rhymefest, Jungle Brothers, Brother Ali, J-Live and !llmind. He released the latest of eight full-length albums (four solo), Polymath, in 2010 to critical acclaim.
On the professional side, David Kelly has authored a book of short stories, essays, lyrics and cartoons (1998’s “Fresh Air”), in addition to writing for numerous magazines, including The Source, Trace and Clue, and has been featured on/in CNN, MSNBC, Time Magazine, Vibe and The Wall Street Journal. Following his work as an associate editor for Third World Press (the world’s foremost black-owned book publishing company), he went to work as an attorney for the premier law firm Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP where he represented the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox and Oakland A’s, among other sports teams. David currently serves as General Counsel and Vice President of Basketball Management & Strategy with the 2015 NBA Champions Golden State Warriors.
